Frequently Asked Dental Questions - Temple, TX

Ask Your Temple Dentist

Have a question? If so, we’re eager to answer it! Patient education is very important to us here at Temple Choice Dental, because we know the higher your dental IQ, the healthier you’ll be! We’ve gone ahead and answered some of our most popular questions below, but you’re always welcome to give us a call and ask about anything we haven’t covered here.

How often should I get a checkup and cleaning?

We recommend coming to see us for a checkup and cleaning at least twice a year, even if you think that nothing is wrong with your teeth! This proactive approach allows us to spot potential problems early and take care of them well before they cause pain or damage.

Which is better: a manual or electric toothbrush?

Honestly, as long as you’re brushing twice a day for two minutes each time, the type of brush you use really doesn’t matter! Electric brushes are better for children and those with mobility issues because they do most of the work, but in several studies, both types have been shown to effectively remove plaque and prevent cavities.

Why do I need professional cleanings if I brush every day?

Even though daily brushing and flossing is essential, your tools at home simply aren’t able to clean every surface in your mouth. This can allow plaque and tartar to accumulate and eventually cause cavities. With a professional cleaning, our hygienists are able to find and take care of each person’s trouble spots so their smile stays healthy year after year.

Does flossing really matter?

Despite the wave of stories that came out a few years ago that questioned the effectiveness of flossing, the dental community all agree that it’s essential to sustained oral health. When someone brushes and doesn’t floss, they leave about 40% of their teeth’s surfaces uncleaned, which makes them susceptible to cavities, bad breath, and gum disease.

How long will it take to fix/replace my tooth?

The time needed to repair or replace a tooth is different for every patient. A minor cavity can usually be fixed in a single appointment, while replacing a tooth may take several months to design and place the prosthetic. We can give you a much more definitive timeline when you come to see us in person for a consultation.

Will you accept my dental insurance?

Temple Choice Dental is in-network with many PPO dental insurance providers, and we also accept Medicaid/CHIP! To learn how we could use your plan to help you save at your next appointment, give us a call today.
